We’re all running from the things that have broken us down to the things we hope will bring us joy. The pain we have felt in our darkest days pushes us to move forward while simultaneously backsliding in our thoughts. Keeping us stranded in what it is we are running from.

Memories we desperately want to forget are kept alive by the very same memories. We counteract this by setting our sights on something that will inevitably bring us joy. Like a heat-seeking missile we lock onto it, we live and breathe this goal until we finally reach it. The joy is felt instantly with passion and success. We are at the height of our lives and so proud of ourselves for finally getting to the light at the end of the tunnel.

The joy soon diminishes, and we are left wondering how it is that what we thought would fill us soon leaves us feeling empty. What drives the rollercoaster I just described? EMOTIONS.” An emotion is a feeling such as happiness, love, fear, anger, or hatred, which can be caused by the situation that you are in or the people you are with”.

What we do with these emotions and how we handle them dictates our state of mind, thus leaving us feeling broken or joyous. Both of these feelings are temporary and can change with the gust of the wind. The key to being grounded is to be content in ourselves and happy with our being. Allowing others to have power over us and throwing us out of balance has a dangerous impact on our mental stability and well-being. Find joy in yourselves, and nothing will have the power to derail you.
