Can you recall a movie or series that was recommended by a friend that started slow and uninteresting, but you stuck with it because they said it gets better and, in the end, was fantastic? You painstakingly suffered through the undesirable moments, yet never turned it off because of a promise that it would get better.
Looking back on my journey through life, I realize just how much this applies. There have been many seasons that caused me to question that promise. Questionable moments leave me with doubt and unfulfilled. I came close to turning it off several times, but that friend kept reminding me of his promise that it would get better.
Today I can’t believe how much my life has changed. It didn’t happen in one season, but took several for things to develop and fall into place as they were meant to. It took me believing in that promise. I’ve built a home that I never thought possible. I counsel people in their moments of crisis. I touched countless lives as a firefighter.
It is easy now to look back and see how life got better. If you’re reading this and are hopelessly searching for a way to keep living, I know because I’ve been there too. If you’re questioning your reason to stay, please stay anyway. I don’t know what you’re going through, but I feel it because I’ve felt it too. I promise it gets better, I promise understanding is on your horizon.
